F.A.Q. or (Got Questions?)

Here is a brief explanation of Tension Therapy the Ephraim Method and some of the more frequently asked questions:

What is Tension Therapy the Ephraim Method?
Tension Therapy the Ephraim Method is the application of a myofascial stretch technique to the body with the purpose of inducing Myofascial Release. Over the years, I've developed manipulation techniques involving soft connective tissue tension reduction and I recently became certified in 'Myofascial Release' Level 1 skills taught to me by noted lecturer and writer John F. Barnes, PT.

What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a specialized gentle touch stress therapy technique used to reduce chronic pain and stress of the body’s Myofascial System. A deeper more cohesive musculoskeletal alignment can occur through the gentle manipulation of the body’s Myofascial System.

What is the Myofascial System?
Think of the Myofascial System as a skin-tight mesh spider suit from head to toe. The Myofascial System is the most pervasive muscle tissue system in our bodies extending throughout our body in a non-specific direction. It is composed of collagen and elastin fibers that provide elasticity and support for the entire musculoskeletal system. This three level matrix of sorts connects every cell to every other cell within our entire body, bones, muscles, organs, skin etc. Perhaps the most important quality of the fascia tissue is that it records all physical, mental, emotional, and cognitive activity. www.stopcts.com

How Does the Myofascial System Work?
The collagen and elastin fibers that make up the Myofascial System are flexible and strong. In addition, the elastin gives muscles elasticity and flexibility, while the collagen provides stability. Collagen also supports the musculoskeletal skeletal structure. Performance and function of all body systems and movements, including the relationship between the connective tissue and muscle, depends on the balance within the myofascial system.

What does a client wear to a session?
There are Stretch techniques that require access to the abdominal and anterior thoracic (chest). For the client's comfort I recommend this wardrobe guidance:

For ladies: Simple T-shirt but with no chests restrictions
(i.e: bras, sports bras or spandex anything) a bathing suit top under your t-shirt is acceptable and always the gym shorts. Also, no rings, bracelets or dangly ear rings, please.

For Guys, gym shorts and a short sleeved T-shirt. Socks to keep your feet warm are optional. As you will notice, when you release tension in the body there is the tendency to get somewhat cool. Follow the wardrobe guidance and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Other links on Myofascial Therapy:

I’ve included some links that I feel will substantiate the relevance of the Myofascial System in regards to body health. These sites explain how the release of stress in the Myofascial System can quicken healing. While there is not a licensing credential offered Myofascial Release is documented in many health journals and professional health websites.
